Biography
Hi, I’m Bruce Coombs! I am a licensed psychotherapist (with the Canadian Counselors and Psychotherapist). I have been studying psychology and philosophy for over thirty years now. I have an undergrad degree in philosophy and psychology, then spent eight years studying Marriage and Family therapy. From there I studied at the University of Manitoba and received my Masters of Education in psychology. After that I continued my exploration into psychology, taking courses, with Berne Brown (shame researcher), Sue Johnson (marriage therapist), and existential psychotherapy with the Canadian existential psychotherapist. At the writing of this I am now studying Jungian analytical theory.
My Practice
I have had the opportunity to work with a large cross-section of people and have therefore been able to help in a number of varied issues and difficulties. I work with persons of all ages, individually, in groups, couples, and families. Through my experience I have come to appreciate that each person brings with them an unexplored universe. Our work together allows us to come to understand that universe and to make it one to be cherished. I value supporting clients in that self exploration and to see them actually feel that internal shift that brings lasting change.
I believe that vulnerability met with compassion is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I have a curious mind and that makes it easy to talk to anyone, anywhere and at any time. If we can truly be open to another’s experience and can experience it together as a shared emotional event, we can experience a connection that not only heals but adds to the very meaning of our lives. It is my honour to be able to share in the lives of the people that trust me with their stories.
I know that everyone can create a fulfilling life. I believe each moment has the potential for growth and is an instrument of hope. I build a connection with people because I have a genuine interest in the value of every single person. And the work we do together allows for exploration and growth, at all times, and for everyone involved.
I know that everyone has struggles and challenges, but I also know that there is away through them. Give me a call, I would welcome the opportunity to know you.
