Biography
Hello, my name is Rachel McCallum. I am a First Nations woman. I identify as Queer. I am also Neurodivergent. My own life experiences have led me on a decolonizing journey of every piece of my life: focusing on parenting in a traditional way, breaking intergenerational cycles, looking at who I am through an Indigenous lens, and celebrating the intergenerational strengths that I carry.
Traditional teachings and Ceremony are an important part of my life as I learn and grow.
I have been in social services and social justice work for 23 years: my experiences have allowed me to walk beside children, parents, and families as they navigate their journey.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work. I am currently in the process of obtaining registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers. I am working on a Masters of Social Work in Indigenous Knowledge.
My Practice
Your healing journey is one that I would be happy to walk with you. Some people seek therapy for childhood traumas, some seek therapy to work through their current life situations, and some people seek therapy to work on personal growth goals; whatever your reason for coming to therapy, I would be honored to walk beside you.
I adjust my style of therapy for each individual depending on their therapy goals. I have knowledge in 2SLGTBQIIA* issues and in navigating Neurodivergent issues in Neurotypical systems. I base my work in a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approach.
I view traumas through both an individual lens and also a community lens; colonization and ongoing systems based in colonial values have caused harm on a community level that requires healing at that same level. Communities heal as individuals heal.
