Biography
Hello, my name is Courtney Shwetz and I have had the privilege of working alongside a variety of populations and ages in differing social service capacities over the past several years. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work and Human Ecology degree, majoring in Family Violence and Child and Youth Development from the University of Manitoba. I am registered with both the Manitoba College of Social Workers and the Canadian Association of Social Workers. I have begun completing a Master of Social Work degree focusing on clinical practice at Dalhousie University.
My experience and education have allowed me to build a strong base upon successfully working with individuals and families while implementing a strength-based, person-centered, trauma-informed approach to care and practice. I strive to continuously grow while furthering my education and experience, achieving a better understanding of the impact surrounding previous experiences and traumas affecting current beliefs and ways of thinking within individuals’ lives.
My Practice
I believe that both positive and negative childhood experiences help to shape an individual’s perspective of the world around them including current feelings, behaviours, and thought processes. Importance is placed upon exploring the role of early life experiences and associated trauma while supporting the growth and development of healthy coping strategies and adjusting current modes of thought.
With experience working alongside children and youth, young adults with intellectual disabilities, adults, and older adults, I have attained experience working with individuals of varying backgrounds and experiences, achieving a greater understanding of the diversity and unique experiences that each individual carries.
My goal of service is to support individuals in attaining a greater understanding of themselves and their feelings through acknowledgment, pattern identification, and improvement of both personal and interpersonal relationships while exploring deeply rooted needs and desires. I strive to provide a non-judgmental and open therapeutic space, allowing every individual to freely express their innermost thoughts and feelings. It would be my pleasure to begin working with you throughout your journey.
