Biography
My name is Nick, and I have been fortunate to walk alongside others in their journey through the many ups and downs of life. I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker, and hold a Masters degree in Social Work. Throughout my career in the mental health field, I have had the privilege to work with people of diverse ages and backgrounds, experiencing a wide variety of challenges in life. I continually strive to learn more about the world, myself, and how I can better contribute to the world of psychotherapy.
My Practice
I believe there is a misconception that therapy will “make you feel better” or bring you a care-free life. My work is rooted in the belief that life is inherently challenging, and that it takes significant effort to behave in a way that aligns with our held values. We are all tempted by our minds to avoid and suppress our uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, but unfortunately this often does more harm than good. A large component of my practice is to help people recognize their inherent resilience, and to face their challenges head on with courage and dignity. I believe that only by stepping outside of comfort can one truly grow, and I seek to work with people in developing the skills and awareness to facilitate that growth. We are all human, and I believe that true acceptance of our fears, perceived faults, and past mistakes allows us to move forward towards a fulfilling life replete with meaning and purpose. My style of therapy is not to help someone eliminate anxiety or negative emotions, and in fact I believe it is a fruitless endeavour. Instead, I work with people to form a different relationship with these things; looking at them with honesty, embracing them, and intentionally taking them along for the ride as you move towards what truly matters to you. With that in mind, it would be a privilege to be part of your journey.
